1.How do I get my picture onto the site?

You can upload a picture directly from your computer. Do not send us photos via email asking us to post it for you.


2.I have a question that has to do with ANY aspect of the Meet Me part of the site.

3.The system won't take my picture! How do I get it to work?

First, make sure that your picture is under 100k. If your picture is too big, too wide, or in the wrong format, or if you need general help in getting your picture submitted, read this.

If you have disabled your browser from accepting cookies, you need to enable cookies.


4.When I try to submit a picture, I get a "Page not found" or "Server not found" error. What's wrong?

This probably means that your picture is taking too long to upload. Your file might be too big. You should make your file smaller.


5.Why wasn't my picture approved? It doesn't fit the criteria you list!

The moderators decide which pictures are accepted into the system, not us. The criteria listed are merely guidelines. A common reason for a normal picture not being approved is that group photos are not allowed, unless the person being voted on is clearly marked on the picture.

Another common cause is your personal introduction; it may not contain anything lewd or any type of contact information (e.g. email address, webpage URL, ICQ, AIM screenname, Messenger, etc.)

If you don't know why your profile was not approved and would like to ask why, click here. If you're convinced your picture should have made it through, you can try resubmitting it.


6.My picture was already approved by the moderators, but now it is listed as being under review! Why isn't it approved anymore?

Your profile is sent back to the moderators whenever you update your Meet Me introduction. If your picture is reported by customers as being offensive or inappropriate, it will also be put up for a second review. Just wait for it the moderators to take another look.


7.Everytime I log in and do anything, the system asks me to log in again! How do I get out of this infinite loop?

It's possible your cookie file may be corrupted somehow. You can reset it by deleting it:
  1. Close all of your browser windows.
  2. In your start menu, select the Search/find file function
  3. Look for "hotornot" within your windows directory (probably c:\windows\). Make sure it searches in subfolders too.
  4. Delete the file it finds.
  5. Restart your browser



8.My picture was deactivated at 30 or 100 or 200 votes, when I see other pictures with over 5,000! Why was mine deactivated?

HOT or NOT gets thousands of new photos every DAY from people all over the world who want to be rated! We have to allocate votes to everyone, so we give a certain number to each photo and then remove it from the voting system. Men get significantly less votes than women because more people vote on women (go figure). You will receive an email when your photo is put on the sidelines. If you want more votes, just come back to the site, log-in and vote for other people. As soon as you've voted 30 or so more times, your photo will get put back into rotation, at which point you'll recieve another alotment of votes and an email letting you know this has happened.


9.I know my friends have voted on my picture already, but I don't see any votes when I log in to check my score! What's going on?

Votes are not tabulated instantly, they are counted every so often as system load permits. Check your picture rating again later.


10.Why can't I put my email address or website URL on my picture?

When we allowed people to do this, some unscrupulous porn sites started doing it too in hopes of roping in unsuspecting users onto their SPAM email lists. You wouldn't want that, would you? Neither would we.


11.My friend put his/her picture on the site. Is there any way I can find it without looking through pictures randomly?

Right now, the only way to go directly to a picture is by its direct link, which your friend can give to you. (they can find their direct link by logging in and looking in the "Your rating" section). We will be introducing some cool new search features including "search by name" soon.


12.I lost my username/password, or my username and password don't work. Can you help?

Our usernames and passwords are case sensitive, so you might want to try typing in ALL CAPS. Users who have a verified email address can click on the "Forgot Your Password" link at the bottom of the login box.


13.Can I get contact info for someone I saw on the site? Can you help me in any way to get in touch with someone?

No, under no circumstances will we ever give out somebody's contact information.

If someone wants to be contacted, they will join the meeting system. After you rate a picture, if that person is in the meeting system a "meet me" link will appear near there photo. Say "yes" to meet them, and if they say "yes" back, you will be able to communication with them.


14.My rating and my votes don't seem to match. What's wrong?

Official HOT or NOT scores are normalized to account for things such as the fact that different people have different voting styles. For instance, some people, for reasons unknown to us, only vote 1-5. Should a 5 from these people count as a 5?

Many standard scoring systems use normalization techniques, including the Olympics and the tests people take to get into college in the US. We still give you the chart, which represents raw data, just for fun.


15.I want to report an innapropriate picture (celebrity, porn, etc.)

That's easy. Just click "back" to go back to the offending picture. Find the link under the picture that says "Report This", click and report. Pictures that are reported by enough HOT or NOT members get delisted and re-evaluated by our customer suport representatives


16.Can I take my picture off the system?

Yes, once you are logged in, you can take yourself out of the photo rating pool by going to the "Your Photos" section. There will be an option there to take yourself out of rating. You can take yourself out of the meeting site by going to the "Edit Profile" section. There will be an option there to take yourself out of Meet Me. If you don't see this option, your picture was not approved and is not currently being shown in the Meet Me section.

To remove your photo from the system, click on the "Your Photos" link, and then click the button under your photo. If the picture does not appear to go away, hit refresh/reload on your browser.


17.Can I be a moderator?

Yes, just visit the moderator section of the site.


18.How can I contact you?

19.Where can I download the HOT or NOT iPhone App?

20.Does the HOT or NOT iPhone App cost money to download?

Nope. It's FREE to download and use.


21.Can I use my existing username and password?

Of course. Our iPhone app is totally integrated with our website. Just log in with the same username and password and voila! You're all set to rate and meet hot people, access your lists of DoubleMatches & Favorites, or give gifts from your GiftBag.


22.Who do I contact if I have problems with creating a profile or uploading my photos?

23.Can I buy virtual gifts on the iPhone App?

You bet. You can buy virtual gifts by clicking on the GIFTS icons. Or, stock up on them in our gift store on HOTorNOT.com. Whatever gifts you buy on HOT or NOT will show up in your wallet in both cases.


24.Can I buy a Star Membership subscription on the iPhone App?

Definitely. Buying a Star Membership (subscription) is as easy as doing it on HOT or NOT - it's completely safe and secure! And you'll be able to access the same account from either iPhone or website.

26.I'm trying to change my keywords but they aren't changing or some of them aren't showing up!

It takes a few hours for keyword changes to be reflected on our system.


27.How do I change the email address associated with my account?

Log in and go to the edit account setings menu. You can change it there.


28.Can I only look at people in my area?

Yes, in the meet section you can do this, but not in the rating section. Next to where you select Men/Women, Straight/Gay, etc.., click on "location" and choose a location from the drop-down box.


29.Can I change my name that shows up in the notes section?

Nope, sorry!


30.Why am I not receiving the confirmation email?

Make sure your email program or website doesn't have any sort of email filtering going on. If you still don;t recieve it, send us an email at "weloveuyou at hotornot dot com"


31.Why does the link in the confirmation email not work (usually from AOL users)?

Try copying and pasting the link into your browser.


32.How are notes sent?

Notes are sent by e-mail. We also include a link to the sender's picture/profile, so the recipient has the option of replying to the note.


33.How are messages sent?

Messages are sent through our messaging system. You can receive e-mail notifications of new messages every time you receive one, once each day you receive a message, or not at all. You can change your e-mail notification settings by clicking 'Edit Account Settings' while in Meet Me.


34.Does joining the meeting site mean my picture will be put up for rating on the main site?

No. When you join, you have the option of not having your picture put up for rating.


35.When someone clicks "Yes" to my picture, does that mean we match automatically?

No. A match is only made when both people click "Yes" on each other. If a person clicks "Yes" on your profile, his/her picture is given some level of priority when you start looking through pictures.

This means you can not just join the system and expect matches to roll in. If you want matches, you need to actively participate and click yes/no to other people. If you don't participate, you will get no matches.

You never know if the next person you look at has already said "Yes" to you, so it pays to be active!


36.When does my picture become inactive in the meeting site?

Your picture becomes inactive on the meeting site once:
A. You have not logged in and clicked yes/no on other people for at least 14 days.
B. You request to be taken out (there is a link in the "View matches" section to do this).



37.When my picture becomes inactive on the rating site, do I become inactive in the meeting site too?

No. The rating section and the meeting section are separate.


38.Why can't I rate my own picture/profile when I look for it?

Because the system is designed to not show you your own picture/profile in Rate or Meet.


39.When I click 'Yes/No' before my picture and profile are approved, do those clicks count?

Yes, they do count. However, we won't show you to the people you clicked 'Yes' to until they are approved.


40.If I click Yes on someone, and then click No on the same person later, what happens? Should I just continue clicking yes everytime I see that person?

Once you click Yes on somebody, clicking No later does not cancel the Yes.

It is unnecessary to vote Yes multiple times to the same person. Doing so has no effect.


41.How do I take myself OUT of the meeting system?

Go to the Dashboard and click on "Personal info" under "Account settings." Click the "Deactivate Me" button in the section at the top of tha page calle "Status of Your Meet Profile." If this option is not present, your picture isn't currently approved and isn't being shown anyway.


42.How do I change my introduction, location, age, or orientation?

Go to the Dashboard and click on "Personal info" under "Account settings."


43.If I send someone a message, how will I know s/he read it?

If you are a 3 or 5 star member, you can request a return receipt. The system will email you when it detects a message has been read. If you are a one star member, you need to upgrade to 3 or 5 star to get return receipts - which you should do anyway because its a better deal!


44.Why don't you just give me a person's email address when we match?

Because that person may not be ready to give you his/her contact info yet. Do you expect a person to give you his/her phone number as soon as you meet? Why should the Internet be any different? That person can give you his/her email address, phone number, etc.. when he/she is ready to.

This way, users always maintain control over who gets to contact them, and how. It also prevents unethical website operators from using our system to rake email addresses to put you on their junk email lists.


45.If I delete a match, can that person still contact me?

No. Once you delete a match, you disappear from that person's match list and they no longer have the ability to send you a message. This gives you absolute control over who can contact you at any point in time.

Unlike giving out a phone number or email address, you can take back a match!


46.Why does it say "No users fit your criteria"?

Click on more options, and make sure that the other criteria (e.g. sexual preference and location) are set to what you want. Even when these criteria are hidden from view, they still take effect.


47.Why can't I put contact information in my picture/profile?

Doing this enables adult website operators and other types of undesireable scammers to use the meeting site as an advertising ground. This would decrease the chance for real matches to be made.


48.I don't have any matches. What can I do to improve my chances of getting a match?

We recommend the following:

A. Make sure your photo(s) are great! HOT or NOT is all about great photos. If your photos are dark, murky, out of focus, overexposed, or if you look like you just had a car wreck or just crawled out of a cave, they are probably not going to get you many YES votes. Post as many great looking photos as you can. You can also keep posting new photos in rate and make the one that gets the highest rating your Meet photo.

B. Make sure your profile is interesting and meaningful. Short profiles that just say "hi" don't give people much reason to believe they'd want to meet you. The profile is your opportunity to differentiate yourself and make you stand out in the crowd.

C. Come back to the system and vote yes/no on other people often. Since matches are made only in cases where both parties say "Yes", this can help a lot!

D. Give it some time. There are people out there who only access the Internet once a week.


49.Does the Meet site cost money?

Only if you want to send messages to another unpaid member. If you are okay with talking to paid members, the site is still free. A paid subscription gets you the ability to talk to unpaid members, as well as priority in match lists and stars on your profile. Finding matches, receiving and replying to messages, and sending messages to paid members is always free.


50.I am a paid member. Is my subscription automatically renewed each period?

Yes it is. But at between 20 and 27 cents per day, our subscriptions are a great value - think about what long distance phone calls cost. If at any time you want to cancel automatic renewal of your subscription, follow the cancellation instructions given in the next FAQ item.


51.How do I cancel my autorenewing subscription?

If you bought the subscription using PayPal:
  1. Click on the following link:https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_subscr-find&alias=hotornot411@yahoo.com
  2. Login to your PayPal account
  3. If (and only if) you have multiple subscriptions, click on where it says "Active" next to the one you want to cancel. If you only have one subscription, skip to the next step.
  4. At the bottom of the page, there will be a button to "Cancel Subscription"
  5. On the next page, hit "Cancel Subscription" again to complete the cancellation
If you didn't use PayPal (if you entered your credit card info directly):
  1. Go to the 'Membership Info' section on your dashboard.
  2. Click the button "Billing Settings".
  3. Click the link "to stop automatic renewal, follows these "instructions".
  4. Send us some quick feedback, then verify that you wish to cancel your membership by clicking the button at the bottom of the page.

Voila! So simple...

CANCELLING YOUR SUBSCRIPTION WILL NOT CANCEL THE EXISTING PERIOD YOU'VE ALREADY PAID FOR. It merely cancels future automatic renewals. If you have any problems with billing, feel free to send us an email. And don't worry, we're honest people! :)


52.I can't pay by credit card, can I send you a money order?

Yes, for 3 and 5 star memberships only, you can send a money order (in US Dollars) made payable to Eight Days, Inc.:

53.I was billed twice this month! What happened?

If you were billed twice (you will know this if you were sent TWO DIFFERENT transaction ID numbers from paypal), this means that at some point in time, you created a second autorenewing subscription without cancelling the first.

If you made two payments, your account will have both already credited to it. You can see how much credit you have by logging in and clicking on the "membership info" menu selection.

But... you should go to paypal and cancel both autorenewing subscriptions(see instructions above) so it doesn't autorenew next month. You can sign on again (just once! :) ) after the 2 months are up.


54.I just upgraded for the first time to a star account, but my account says I'm still a basic member!

Please note: This information applies only to people who signed up using PayPal. If you didn't use Paypal and are still having problems, send me an email and I'll try and help.

It sometimes takes Paypal up to 2 hours to notify our system that you paid (even if they emailed you a receipt saying your payment was already sent). If it has not been two hours yet, please wait and check back later. Otherwise...

It may be that your transaction never went through. if you log in to paypal, you should be able to see whether it did or not. If it did, you should have received a payment receipt from them via email, and should forward that to me at the address listed in that email.

If you don't see it there, then log back in to hotornot, click on membership info, click on upgrade, select the membership you want and hit the "pay" button, then when you get to the payment form, you should be able to log on with your paypal account (you might need to hit a button where it says "Already have a PayPal account? login now" if it doesn't already recognize you)


55.I was supposedly autorenewed, but my account says I'm a basic member now... What gives??

If you bought the subscription using PayPal:

More than likely, this means your last payment attempt didn't go through. It is probably scheduled to try again soon (If you log in to PayPal and look at the subscription, you can see when. Do this by following steps 1 through 3 in the subscription cancellation instructions above).

Log in to Paypal and make sure your credit card info is correct (Profile->Credit Card) or that you have sufficient funds in the account, then wait for the next payment attempt.

If you can't wait, you can try cancelling your existing subscription, and then re-sigining up.

If you didn't use PayPal (if you entered your credit card info directly):

The most likely reason is that your credit card information is not valid. The best solution is to verify your billing information:

  1. Go to the 'Membership Info' section of the HOT or NOT user menu (there's a link at the bottom of this page)
  2. Click the button to 'View payment history' (If you don't see the payment history button, you need to follow the above instructures for PayPal users)
  3. Click the link to view/change your credit card information.



56.Help, my web browser crashes when I click the links in the "Someone wants to meet you" emails!

57.Help, my browser gives an error when I try to go to PayPal!

If you are using Internet Explorer, go to the browser's menu bar and select Help -> About Internet Explorer. If in the window that pops up it says "Cipher Strength: 56-bit", you must either upgrade IE or use another browser that supports 128-bit encryption, such as Mozilla.


58.I'm receiving payment reminders but not other mail from HOT or NOT.

Yahoo

To ensure that your HOT or NOT email is delivered to your Yahoo Inbox (not the Bulk Mail folder), you can instruct Yahoo to filter it to your Inbox. Here's how:

  • Open your yahoo mailbox
  • click mail options (on upper right)
  • click on "block addresses"
  • In the "remove block" list, which is alphabetically sorted, look to see if the address "meetme@hotornot.com" is in there.
  • If it is there, select it, and then hit the "remove block" button below.

Hotmail

If you are using Hotmail, you can ensure that your HOT or NOT email is delivered to your Inbox by adding our "From" address to your Safe List. Here's how:

  • Click the Options tab.
  • Select Safe List. (It's under the heading Mail Handling.)
  • In the space provided, enter the address meetme@HOTorNOT.com. Click Add.
  • When you see the address you entered in the Safe List box, click OK.

AOL

If you're using AOL, you can ensure that your HOT or NOT email is delivered to your Inbox by setting your Mail Controls. Here's how:

  • Go to Keyword Mail Controls.
  • Select the screen name we're sending your HOT or NOT email to.
  • Click Customize Mail Controls For This Screen Name.
  • For AOL version 7.0: In the section for "exclusion and inclusion parameters", include the domain HOTorNOT.com
  • For AOL version 8.0: Select Allow email from all AOL members, email addresses and domains.
  • Click Next until the Save button shows up at the bottom.
  • Click Save.



59.In Hotmail, when I click on a link in the "Someone wants to meet you " email, I get the message: "Your email message has been idle and this link has become inactive. To access the link, close this window and return to your Message. Then click the browser's Refresh button or close your message and reopen it."

Close the window and return to the message. Then click the browser's Refresh button or close your message and reopen it. :P


60.What are virtual flowers?

61.What is "Online Now"? Do I have to show when I'm online?

The "Online Now" icon appears when a user has been active recently. You can hide your "Online Now" icon by clicking "Edit Account Settings" while in Meet Me, and unchecking the "Show my Online Now status" box. When you hide your status, you won't be able to see when other people are online.

Note that you're only considered to be online when you're actively using the site -- by reading your messages, browsing profiles, etc. Simply leaving a window open won't keep you "Online Now".



62.How do I completely delete my Meet Me account?

Well, we hope you don't want to delete your account completely. Most people just want to deactivate it for awhile while they are dating someone. To deactivate your account, go to your Dashboard>>Account Settings>>Personal Info and select 'Deactivate Me' which will deactivate your profile in Meet (this will prevent you from showing up and no one will be able to send you a YES vote). If you really want to completely remove your account from the whole HOT or NOT system, simply go to Dashboard>>Rate>>Your Rating and remove each picture. Logout of Hot or Not and do not login again. Your account will automatically expire.


63.What is poking?

Poking is a feature we've added that allows Meet Me users to let their matches know they are still interested, while not requiring a personal message. Poking someone also renews a double-match for 60 more days. To opt-out of poking-related e-mails, goto Dashboard>>Account Settings>>Email Preferences and uncheck the box under "Email notification preferences" that says "Mail me when someone pokes me", then click save.


64.Can I receive the full text of messages in my e-mail?

If you're a star member, you can receive full messages in your e-mail -- just click "E-mail me the full text of messages I receive" in your account settings.


65.How do I see all messages from my double-match?

Click on a message from your match in your Inbox, or click 'Send Message' in your double-match list. If you have more than four messages from your match, click 'see all' above the first message.


66.Are "Notes" sent through the messaging system?

No. "Notes" are sent through regular e-mail and do not appear in your HOT or NOT Inbox or Sent message folders.


67.If I send someone a message, how will I know s/he read it?

If you are a 3 or 5 star member, you can request a return receipt. The system will email you when it detects a message has been read.


68.How do I change my e-mail preferences?

Click 'Edit account settings' on the yellow sidebar while in Meet Me.


69.What is a scoreboard?

The owner of a scoreboard can change the description, logo and link. If you are the owner, log into HOT or NOT and click on Your Scoreboards.


73.Is my scoreboard visible to the public?

Nope, only people who know the group name or have the link will be able to find your scoreboard. If you are interested in featuring your scoreboard on our site, drop us an email and let us know!


74.How come there are people on my scoreboard with a mystery picture or question mark?

Those people are either in the process of changing their photo or did not get their photo approved.


75.Hey, my friend XYZ is rated higher than me on the scoreboard, but s/he clearly isn't hotter than me...what gives?

Welcome to reality. Sucks sometimes, huh? Do what we do, and send the scoreboard to all your friends to jack your score up ;)


76.How is the rank determined?

Highest score are ranked first and ties are broken by number of votes. People whose pictures are not approved yet will be shown as a mystery picture.


77.Why is my score shown as N/A?

It takes 10 votes before a rating is calculated.


78.How do I remove myself from a scoreboard?

If you are logged into HOT or NOT when visiting the scoreboard, a remove link will appear next to your score. The scoreboard owner can also remove you.


79.Where do I enter the admin password for the scoreboards?

We've made Scoreboards a part of your profile. Just login to see them. If you are the owner of the Scoreboard, you'll have options to edit or delete your Scoreboards.
